The Third Flatiron is the finest rock above Boulder. It is one of the finest climbing rocks anywhere. When all the obscure routes have been found and climbed, the Third will still stand supreme as the monarch of all the Flatirons. Climbing the Third is like viewing a full moon: you don’t have to work very hard to see the light.

Flatiron Classics is a celebration of the joys that come from moving over easy rock. The Flatirons above Boulder Colorado, offer the finest array of easy rock climbs anywhere. The Flatirons are especially precious since they are located close to a major population center. Flatiron Classics reports on over 20 miles of routes. Not 20 miles along the base of the range, but 20 miles as measured with a rope!

Published by Fulcrum in 1987, this 4 x 6 inch, 336-page, soft-cover classic is perfect for your pocket. The tricky part is finding a copy of the book, since it is long out of print. The guide describes over 250 flatiron routes. Eighty-eight percent of them are rated Class 5.6 or easier. The hardest route described in Flatiron Classics is rated Class 5.8. Fifty-two of the routes are designated *Classic.* In addition to the climbing routes, the guide describes 15 trailheads, 30 trails, 11 off-trail hiking routes, 4 caves and several arches. Gerry also provides Variations and Extra Credits for many of the routes. The City of Boulder has rerouted some of the approach trails and changed many regulations since Gerry wrote Flatiron Classics, so some of that information is out of date. However, the route descriptions on the rocks are still accurate.

This book has become quite rare. The copies that we have for sale are in very fine condition.
