And this our life, exempt from public haunt,
Finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks,
Sermons in stones, and good in everything.
I would not change it.

Colorado’s Lost Creek Wilderness

– Classic Summit Hikes

With its peaceful mountain trails and exhilarating summit plateaus, Colorado’s Lost Creek Wilderness is one of the most unique hiking regions in Colorado. Only 40 miles southwest of Denver and 48 miles northwest of Colorado Springs, the Lost Creek Wilderness offers breathtaking summit hikes along twisting trails near rock towers and natural arches. This is the first-ever hiking guide to one of the most beautiful and least visited wilderness areas in Colorado. Jennifer and Gerry created this guide out of love for this extraordinary place.

Published by Fulcrum in 2001, this tiny tome covers 4 mountain ranges; the Platte River, Kenosha, Tarryall and Puma Hills. The 6x9 inch, soft-cover book has 160 pages, a color cover with 3 full color photographs and 59 annotated, black-and-white photographs. The guide covers 23 trailheads, 34 peaks and 74 routes, each leading to the summit of a peak. Each route has summary information, which includes distance, elevation gain, difficulty and an effort rating. The second edition’s big improvement was the addition of 13 highly annotated, black-and-white topographic maps. The guide also has a locator map for the wilderness area and 7 fine line drawings of animals by Salida artist Jon MacManus. Finally, the second edition has 10 lists of the peaks in the area in and around the Lost Creek Wilderness.
