Escape
There’s torment in the wind today,
It screams with anguish on its way;
And something in its frenzied cry
Resounds within me in reply:
Oh frantic wind – I know! I know!
And I will join you as you go –
Escaping dread, unseen distress,
We’ll leap into the wilderness,
And whirl this fright and fury out,
And whip away all clinging doubt;
Then softly glide back in the night –
Released and calmed by our wild flight.

After Gerry’s mother died of cancer in 1976,
his family put together this collection of her poetry. Eloise had written the
poems over many years, often just scribbled on the back of an envelope, but they
found and organized what turned out to be quite a collection. Using words
as her vehicle, Eloise shared her gift of sensitivity toward the beauties
and complexities of life. With her pondering pen, she wove colors of universal
appeal into the fabric of time, expressing joy, sadness, love, despair, passion,
humor and wonderment over the adventure of being human. Eloise was the first
person to swim the length of Wisconsin’s Lake Geneva, and Gerry got much of his
athleticism from her. She also instilled in him a sense of wonderment and awe for nature. |
This 148-page, soft-cover book captures
127 of Eloise Roach’s poems, and remains a tribute to her spirit. The poems are organized
into six categories: Daily Living, Family, Friendship, Love, Nature and Wisdom.
The tome also has 10 black-and-white photographs. Swim On Gentle Swan might
just make a perfect stocking stuffer for your loved ones, and you can add
it to your existing order with little additional cost. |
