Returning to my task, I alternated between handholds so sharp that they could quickly slice my rope, and others that turned to mud as I gripped them with my soggy gloves. The climbing route ascends the center of this face to the flat spot on the west ridge to the right of the summit, then traverses the tortured upper west ridge to reach the main summit

Carstenz is also called Puncak Jaya
