When the rain drumming on my parka hood felt solid, I looked up to see the air filled with snow. Returning to my task, I alternated between handholds so sharp that they could quickly slice my rope, and others that turned to mud as I gripped them with my soggy gloves. Choosing carefully, I inched toward the summit.
