A peak’s prominence is defined as the peak’s height above the highest saddle connecting it to a higher ranked peak. If there is no such saddle above sea level, then the peak’s prominence is the peak’s height above sea level. The terms prominence and rise are synonyms. The abbreviation Prom is used as the Prominence/Rise column heading.
