Notes by Gerry Roach
  1. The Retirement Range is the Platte River Mountains, the Kenosha Mountains, the Tarryall Mountains and the Puma Hills. Most of this area is in the Lost Creek Wilderness.

  2. The abbreviations in the RG column denote the range as follows: PR = Platte River Mountains; KM = Kenosha Mountains; TA = Tarryall Mountains; PH = Puma Hills.

  3. “Wigwam Park Peak” has three contours of 11,160 feet. The northwest summit has the given elevation of 11,171 feet, while the extrpolated elevation for the two contours that do not have a given elevation is 11,180 feet - a higher number. After careful hand level measurments of the three summits, I have determined that the tree-covered southeast summit is definetly lower than the other two, and that the central summit is about two feet higher than the northwest summit with the given elevation of 11,171 feet. Until more accurate information is available, I consider that the central summit is the summit of the mountain, and give it the extrapolated elevation of 11,180 feet. Both the central and northeast summits are rock outcrops with open, expansive views, and you can ascend both these summit outcrops on their northeast sides.

  4. Point 11,060 on the Topaz Mtn Quad has three summits with the 11,040-foot contour. With a field visit, I determined that the central summit is lower than both the western and eastern summits. It is hard to tell if the western or eastern summit is the highest, but I give the nod to the western summit with the extrapolated elevation of 11,060 feet.

  5. Point 11,485 on the Farnum Peak Quad has four 11,440-foot contours. The southern carries the spot elevation 11,466, the northern carries the spot elevation 11,469, and the two in between have no spot elevations. Using only the map, this peak would list as Point 11,469, but field observation by Bob Martin and others has shown that the southern of the two unnumbered contours is the highpoint of the mountain. It is significantly higher than the other summits, and Bob Martin estimated its elevation as 11,485 feet. This height means that the summit is missing a contour.
